Step away from the noise of daily life and immerse yourself in a rejuvenating Tai Chi retreat in the mountains, designed to restore balance, vitality, and inner calm. Whether you are brand new to Tai Chi or a seasoned practitioner seeking deeper exploration, this retreat offers a powerful opportunity to reconnect with your body, breath, and heart.

What You’ll Experience

Set in a peaceful mountain environment, this all-day retreat blends gentle movement, focused instruction, and restorative breaks that support both physical health and mental clarity.

We will be teaching the Yang Family 108 Form, with special attention to:

  • Balance and fall prevention
  • Heart health and circulation
  • Posture and “tech neck” / phone health
  • Elasticity, flexibility, and joint mobility
  • Stress relief and nervous system regulation

Each session is taught in a way that is accessible for seniors and beginners, while also offering refinement, structure, and deeper internal principles for experienced Tai Chi students.

About the Instructor

This Mountain Tai Chi Day Retreat is taught by Sifu Michael Paler, a 7th Generation Yang family Tai Chi lineage holder and founder of the Tai Chi Association of Colorado Springs, and Tai Chi Online Classes, a complete online learning curriculum!

With decades of teaching experience, Sifu Michael is known for making authentic Tai Chi accessible to seniors, beginners, and experienced practitioners, with a strong focus on health, balance, and internal principles.

Sifu Michaels complete online Tai Chi course is a perfect companion to the retreat.

The same forms and principles taught in person are reinforced online, allowing retreat students to continue and deepen their practice at home.

Sifu Michael Paler, 7th generation Yang Family Tai Chi lineage holder, is excited to share his deep knowledge of Tai Chi Chuan with you. Keeping no secrets and holding nothing back.  He will be teaching authentic Yang Family Tai Chi workshops during the retreat, demonstrating how form, qigong and 2 person training methods work together to generate power and healing.

About Catamount Mountain Campus

High up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, surrounded by 200,000 acres of forest, with two beautiful lakes and hiking trails, the Catamount Mountain Campus is situated on the northern slope of Pikes Peak near Woodland Park, CO, only a 30-minute drive from Colorado Springs.

In this beautiful remote location, guests stay in dorms with two people per room, offering views of Pikes Peak and surrounding forests, mountains, and lakes. Tent and camping spaces are also available.

These are good budget or value stays with solid reviews and comfortable accommodations:

  • Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Woodland Park – Good budget hotel with comfortable rooms and a convenient location downtown near local dining and shops.  
  • Eagle Fire Lodge & Cabins – Highly reviewed lodge with a more rustic, mountain vibe — often considered great value.  
  • Bristlecone Lodge – Cozy, well-reviewed lodge option a short drive from the town center.  
  • Woodland Inn – Small bed-and-breakfast with comfy rooms and scenic views (especially nice for seniors or guests seeking a quieter experience).
  • Little Beaver Inn (Green Mountain Falls, near Woodland Park) – Charming historic inn with excellent ratings.  
  • Rocky Top Motel & Campground (Green Mountain Falls) – Budget-friendly motel with a classic small-town feel.

Manitou Springs, CO:
Great budget and mid-range options within walking distance of galleries, restaurants, and attractions:

  • Villa Motel at Manitou Springs – Well-rated budget motel with clean rooms and a friendly vibe.  
  • Quality Inn & Suites Manitou Springs at Pikes Peak – Very affordable choice right in town (often under $100/night).  
  • The Cliff House at Pikes Peak – Mid-range hotel with excellent reputation (a bit more upscale but still good value).

Tips for Booking:

Elevation at Catamount Mountain Campus is 9500 ft.  Altitude sickness can be a real health issue that people don’t recognize.

Here are common symptoms:  Headaches -Dizziness -Loss of appetite -Nausea/vomiting -Fatigue/loss of energy -Insomnia

To help counter the effects of altitude sickness:

  • Hydrate before, and especially during your visit. Drink lots of water! This is the BEST remedy. Start BEFORE you arrive!
  • The 3 S’s: Slow down, Seek shade and Stay cool.
  • Increase potassium-rich foods (broccoli, bananas, avocado, cantaloupe, celery, greens, bran, chocolate, granola, dates, dried fruit, potatoes, and tomatoes).
  • Decrease salt.
  • Eat complex carbs.
  • If all else fails, take aspirin or ibuprofen, or a mild pain reliever of your choice
