Tai Chi Creates in the body the “Relaxation Response”, creating a healthy Mind & Body!

I recently watched a video (below) by Dr Herbert Benson, a pioneer of mind / body medicine, the video was about his book, “The Relaxation Revolution: Enhancing Your Personal Health Through the Science and Genetics of Mind Body Healing”.    Dr. Benson of Harvard Medical School identified the body’s physiologic reaction to meditation that is the exact opposite of the stress (fight-or-flight) response.

According to Dr Benson, there a lot of research from Harvard Medical School that shows that the mind can be effecting the body, in fact they found that the mind was inseparable from the body.  They now know that meditation leads to a response that looked exactly opposite of the fight or flight response.  They started applying it to stress related conditions and found that these techniques can effectively treat any condition that’s caused or made worse by stress, such as; anxiety, mild and moderate depression, insomnia, high blood pressure, all forms of pain.  He also said the tension headaches we virtually curative.

Tai Chi Creates in the body the Relaxation ResponseTai Chi creates a “Relaxation Response” in its practitioners, not just while they are working out or doing the form, but long after.  Why? Tai Chi is unique when it comes to meditation because it’s moving meditation, and practitioners of Tai Chi learn to take the relaxed meditative moves with them into their daily lives. Its NOT just something we do for an hour a day, its something we always do.

The relaxation techniques we learn in Tai Chi we are taught to integrate into our daily lives.  Other meditations groups teach you to sit, lay or stand for a length of time and meditate daily, so you may get an hour or so of this type of practice, but in Tai Chi, because its moving meditation, we learn how to apply these techniques to everyday activities 24/7; such as driving, working, hiking, doing the dishes or gardening.

It is my humble opinion that there is no better practice than Tai Chi, lets start this journey together and learn to be in a more aware meditative state all the times.
